The Lord Jesus Christ was sent by His Father from heaven to this earth to save sinners. 1Tim.1:15 says, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” The Lord Jesus came “preaching the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”” (Mk.1:14-15).
After His resurrection, our Lord said to His disciples, “as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” (Jn.20:21). The disciples were being sent by the Lord to continue the mission the Father gave to Him : the preaching of the gospel for the salvation of sinners. The obedience of the disciples and the members of the early church is recorded for us in the book of Acts. Jesus’ sending of His disciples also applies to us today. We are sent by Him to preach the gospel for the salvation of sinners.
In obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ, we as a church have sought to be active in the work of evangelism. Over the years we have been involved (1) in preaching the gospel in specially planned programs in our church; (2) in the free distribution of gospel tracts, booklets and CDs containing gospel sermons; (3) in the visitation of various communities giving them gospel materials and inviting them out to church; (4) in evangelistic Bible studies; (5) in out-reach Sunday classes for children; (6) in open-air preaching of the gospel.
We continually pray for fruit (Jn.15:16) from our various gospel labors. We can say the Lord has graciously blessed us with fruit. We thank God for the growth in our church and pray for greater growth because of our desire to see sinners saved in Christ.
In obedience to our Lord in His Great Commission (Matt.28:18-20) we have also sought to become involved in the work of missions. Over the years, as the Lord gave ability and means, we have supported pastors and missionary endeavors in various parts of the world. In 1996, we were introduced to the gospel work taking place in Tamil Nadu, India. We got involved in supporting these gospel works and their pastors. In 2006 we became more directly involved with the Evangelical Baptist Church in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Through this church we began to support various pastors. We are also involved with pastors in other parts of India. Our involvement in India also includes teaching / training conferences for pastors, equipping pastors with good Bible translations and books, introducing pastors to various theological websites they can use to further enhance their theological studies, keeping pastors supplied on a weekly basis with good theological articles and Bible studies.
Three years ago we began supporting students from India and Nepal in the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Dehradun, India. We have seen the graduation of three young men from India and they have gotten involved in the ministry.
It is our prayer and hope that as a church we would grow from strength to strength in our involvement and labors in evangelism and missions. May the Lord be glorified in this great work to which He has called us.
